Company History
Fred Tilzey founded Empire Lath & Plaster, Inc. in 1960. His diversified company offered lath and plaster, drywall, acoustical, light steel framing, and fireproofing. His daughter, Sandy, joined her father in 1972 as his office manager. Later, another daughter, Alice, and son David joined the company. Upon his retirement in 1995, he turned the business over to Sandy. Following retirement, up until the day of his passing the fall of 2006, Fred continued to lend a hand where needed each and every morning. His afternoons, however, were set aside for his passion, a game of golf at Hilands!
Following his example, Sandy and her longtime, dedicated team of employees, helped Empire Lath & Plaster grow and expand to become one of the state’s top subcontractors. Empire Lath & Plaster, Inc. is a family business that extends beyond the Tilzeys. The company also employs a number of fathers, sons and brothers on its crews.
